Red Sauce

Magpie #56

She learned to make red sauce
at the elbow of her Italian grandmother;
a recipe passed down for generations.

Garlic, olive oil, salt, basil, stewed tomatoes,
ingredients part of her being, part of her history;
she smelled memories as it simmered in the pot.

  1. I still smell the memories of my grandmother when garlic simmers in the pot. I like your response to the prompt. I too wrote about my grandmother - not Italian but she relied on garlic to make her food delicious.

  3. I'm late to this one, sorry (trying to catch up on my blog reading these days!).

    Like your Italian take on it, how am I not surprised? :)

    PS: Still use your recipe for homemade marinara sauce, it's the best!
